Top 5 Reasons – Ubuntu Linux 10.04

Recently, I downloaded and installed Ubuntu Linux 10.04 (codenamed “Lucid Lynx”) on my Dell Inspiron Laptop running Windows 7 as the primary operating system. I used the free VMware Player to try out Ubuntu Linux, thus avoiding the need to partition my hard drive or performing complex changes to my system settings.
Ubuntu Linux runs extremely well inside VMware Player, with a single virtual processor, 512mb virtual memory, and the default virtual machine display settings. After using this system for close to 3 months, I’ve listed down the “Top 5” reasons why anyone should give this distribution of Linux a go.
Windows Live Writer & Your WordPress Blog

I’ve recently experimented using Windows Live Writer, a part of Windows Live Essentials, to publish a post to my WordPress blog. Turns out that Writer fully supports WordPress blogs, even those that use the software downloaded from wordpress.org (as opposed to hosting one on wordpress.com). The process is very simple, and I’ve listed down the basic steps to get started.
It’s important to note that I host the blog myself, and I’ve installed the WordPress software on my server, that I downloaded from wordpress.org. To get started, the pre-requisites are:
- A working installation of WordPress blogging software
- A Windows computer
- Windows Live Essentials suite
